Cet article vise à offrir une synthèse rigoureuse de la littérature scientifique portant sur les relations entre la gouvernance locale, l’investissement régional et le développement économique local. L’objectif principal est de cartographier les contributions académiques majeures, d’identifier les axes thématiques dominants et d’éclairer les perspectives de recherche futures dans un champ de plus en plus interdisciplinaire. L’étude repose sur une revue bibliométrique de la littérature des publications indexées dans la base Scopus jusqu’en 2025. À l’aide du logiciel VOSviewer (v.1.6.20), une cartographie des cooccurrences de mots-clés, des réseaux d’auteurs, de sources et d’institutions a été réalisée. L’analyse thématique a ensuite permis d’identifier les trajectoires d’évolution du champ et les tendances méthodologiques dominantes. L’analyse met en évidence une structuration du champ autour de huit clusters cognitifs, illustrant la diversité des approches théoriques et empiriques mobilisées. La recherche connaît une évolution progressive en quatre phases, allant de l’approche institutionnelle fondatrice à l’intégration des enjeux de résilience, d’innovation et de transition verte. Un agenda de recherche structuré est proposé pour combler les lacunes empiriques, affiner les mesures de la gouvernance et explorer les effets distributifs et spatiaux des investissements. Cette étude fournit une vue d’ensemble inédite et actualisée de la production scientifique sur un champ stratégique au croisement des sciences économiques, politiques et territoriales. En combinant rigueur méthodologique et lecture critique des tendances émergentes, elle propose une feuille de route opérationnelle pour les chercheurs et les décideurs publics souhaitant mieux comprendre, mesurer et gouverner les effets des investissements régionaux sur le développement local. L’approche adoptée met également en évidence la nécessité d’intégrer les dimensions sociales, environnementales et numériques pour une gouvernance locale véritablement transformative.
